Knitted skirts are becoming wardrobe staples—the “pleated” silhouette looks great on all body types and they require a lot less shaping than sweaters! In this class, we’ll take proper body measurements and combine them with your choice of gauge to create a personalized pattern for a classic-looking “pleated” skirt similar to Putting On The Pleats [https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/putting-on-the-pleats] with a perfect fit, no matter your size. You can choose yarn ahead of time (see homework below) or plan to purchase yarn the day of the workshop.
Homework is optional (see below).
Experience level: ADVANCED-BEGINNER KNITTING SKILLS REQUIRES; MUST BE COMFORTABLE KNITTING IN ROUNDS AND INCREASING.
Materials to bring: Pencil; tape measure.
Optional: Your choice of fingering or sport-weight yarn for a skirt (you’ll be notified prior to class how much you’ll need based on your high-hip circumference); appropriate 24” circular needles for your chosen yarn; pencil; tape measure; homework swatch. Please wear close-fitting pants (yoga pants or leggings are ideal) to facilitate taking measurements.
Homework (optional):
Choose fingering or sport-weight yarn that’s composed of at least two plies, is tightly twisted, and is at least 75% wool (superwash is okay). You’ll be notified prior to class how much yarn you’ll need based on your high-hip circumference.
With your chosen yarn and needles (double-pointed, two circular, or magic-loop method), cast on 46 stitches and work in rounds for 4” and measure your stitch gauge. Adjust needle size until you obtain a gauge of 7 to 7.5 stitches per inch for fingering weight yarn; a gauge of 6 to 6.5 stitches per inch for sport-weight yarn.
Bring your swatch and one skein of yarn to class. We respectfully request that materials be purchased at Needlefish Yarns.
